Friday 22 September, 2023, The County Government of Kitui under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe is keen to solarize water pumping in the various water projects across Kitui in order to cut down on high power cost occasioned by the ever hiking cost of fuel.
Water and Irrigation CECM Peter Nkunda has said the move aims to rationalize the cost of water service provision besides promoting adoption of green energy in the backdrop of global climate change challenges.
“It is becoming increasingly unsustainable and very expensive to rely on diesel-powered water pumping. That’s why we have resolved to have the boreholes solarized,” he explained.
He spoke during a development tour of Kyome/Thaana Ward in Mwingi West Sub-County.
The County Minister affirmed the county administration’s commitment to deliver on Governor Malombe’s pledge to address water problems facing Kitui residents.
CEC Nkunda visited Kyusyani borehole in Thaana Nzau Village, Yenzuva borehole in Yenzuva Village and Thitani borehole in Thitani Village, among others to address water related issues in the area.
On his part, the local MCA Hon. Alphonse Mukwaiyu, commended the County Government for its deliberate and prompt efforts to guarantee reliable water supply for the Kitui electorate.
Also present were the Deputy Director for water Eng. Kennedy Muteti, Mwingi West water engineers, Ward Administrator and area Chief, among others.
