Kitui CECM for Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele called on farmers across the county to take advantage of the ongoing long rains to plant more food to curb food insecurity.
Speaking when he officiated the commissioning of Ikaaie Community borehole in Kyuso, Mwingi North Sub County*, the CECM indicated that the county was on the right trajectory to food security noting that Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s administration has made tremendous strides towards ensuring food security among them the distribution of certified seed to farmers across the county.
He urged farmers to work closely with County Extension Officers for advice on the appropriate crops for planting & on pests and diseases control. He highlighted it’s importance in ensuring better quality produce and mitigating the risk of crop failure.
While Commenting on the day’s event, Mr. Kimwele lauded the project saying it will serve to reduce the distance travelled by residents in search of water alongside providing water for domestic use, livestock and irrigated agriculture.
The area MCA Hon. Mr.Munyoki Mwinzi thanked the project coordinators for overseeing the completion of the project noting the serious water problems faced by area residents for the longest time ever.
