Following the recently concluded countywide boda boda mapping and sensitization drive, the County Government of Kitui has initiated plans to support operators in the formation of SACCOs.
The Chief Officer for Transport & Boda boda Sector Peter Ketonya Musya and his counterpart for Cooperatives & Citizen Group Economic Empowerment Initiatives Paul Ngei Monyi today held a consultative meeting with Boda boda sector leaders drawn from across the County at the Roads CECM’s Boardroom to discuss modalities for formation of the SACCOs.
The meeting deliberated on the registration process as follows:
– Pre-cooperative education for all potential members;
-Formulation of by-laws by interim committee members;
-Adoption of by-laws by members in a meeting comprising all the society members;
-Printing of all relevant documents;
– Application for registration;
-Launch/official issuance of registration certificates; and
-Induction for newly elected management committee members.
Speaking during the meeting, CO Ketonya called for utmost cooperation from all the stakeholders for the program’s success.
On his part, CO Monyi encouraged Boda boda operators to embrace the initiative and cultivate the culture of saving for long-term investments.
Also present were Directors in the Ministry of Trade, Industry, MSMEs, Innovation and Cooperatives Sammy Musomba and Assistant Director for Cooperatives Francis Mutuku, among other County Government officers.
