Mutomo – In a decisive action today, police officers in Mutomo successfully secured the Kitui South National Constituency offices and other government buildings from a group of demonstrators. The protesters, chanting slogans against President William Ruto and MP Rachael Kaki Nyamai, were thwarted in their attempt to vandalize the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) offices.

The demonstration was led by Ikanga Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Cyrus Musyoka and Mr Ahmed Mohammed (Moi international airport employee) who recently declared his support for Cabinet Secretary Hon. Hon. Penina Malonza. The group of protesters had initially targeted the home of MP Dr. Nyamai and the constituency Development (NCDF) office and constituency manager home which were secured by the police.

This unrest follows a recent social media feud between supporters of CS Malonza and MP Nyamai castigating her for voting YES. Today highlighted growing tensions within the constituency between the two leaders. Efforts to obtain a comment from area MP Rachael Nyamai were met with her statement that she did not wish to comment on the matter at this time.

The police presence in Mutomo has been praised for preventing potential vandalism and maintaining order during the protests.
