The Yatta Kwa Vonza Member of County Assembly, Hon. Mark Ndingo, on Thursday participated in a grand celebration marking 60 years of Catholic evangelism at Kwakilui Parish in Kitui Rural. The event was graced by the presence of Bishop Joseph Mwongela, who led the faithful in commemorating this significant milestone in the church’s history.
The celebrations were highlighted by the inauguration of a new office building named after the late Bishop William Dunne, the first Catholic Bishop of Kitui. The building, now serving as the secretariat, stands as a tribute to Bishop Dunne’s pioneering role in the establishment and growth of the Catholic Church in the region.
In addition to the new secretariat, a borehole was also commissioned, providing a much-needed water source for the local community. This development is expected to greatly enhance the quality of life for the residents of Kwakilui Parish and surrounding areas.
A particularly joyful part of the celebrations was the solemnization of the holy matrimony of 32 couples. The mass wedding ceremony was a profound expression of faith and commitment, bringing together these couples in the presence of the church and their community.
Hon. Mark Ndingo praised the efforts of the Catholic Church in promoting spiritual growth and community development over the past six decades. He emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives that benefit the local communities both spiritually and materially.
The event drew a large gathering of clergy, local leaders, and parishioners, all of whom expressed their gratitude and joy for the continued presence and influence of the Catholic Church in the region. The celebrations concluded with prayers and a communal meal, symbolizing unity and fellowship among the attendees.
