Principal Secretary for livestock development Jonathan Mueke, has called on educators to be strategic in their political choices, emphasizing the importance of supporting candidates with a realistic chance of winning elections.
Speaking at the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kitui Branch Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mutomo, Kitui South, Mueke urged attendees to be mindful of their political alliances, warning against allowing individuals with “inferior potential” to dominate their time and influence.
“We must look at the candidates on the table and ask ourselves if we are backing a candidate who can win elections,” Mueke told the gathering, stressing the need for practical political decisions.
His remarks come at a time when political realignments are taking shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various leaders seeking grassroots support. Kitui County remains a key political battleground, with leaders vying for influence in the region.
The meeting brought together teachers and education stakeholders from across Kitui, discussing issues affecting the profession while also delving into governance and leadership matters.
Mueke’s message resonated with many in attendance, particularly as the county gears up for future electoral contests. His address highlighted the intersection of education, leadership, and political consciousness, urging teachers to play a proactive role in shaping the region’s future.
