With a history of backing Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka through multiple election cycles, many in Ukambani feel it’s time for a shift that places the community in a more influential position within government.
For decades, Kamba political strategy has centered on the Wiper Party’s strong opposition stance. However, after being left without direct government representation since 2013, many community members are questioning whether continued allegiance to the opposition best serves their interests. Analysts suggest that key leaders such as Ngilu and Kiema Kilonzo could help guide Ukambani in a new direction, one focused on aligning with the government and securing a seat at the decision-making table.
“Both Ngilu and Kiema have extensive experience and networks that could greatly benefit the region’s development goals,” said political analyst Peter Njoroge. “By working within the government framework, they could advocate for the infrastructure, education, and healthcare improvements that the Kamba people are calling for.”
While Kalonzo Musyoka’s future political plans remain uncertain, speculation mounts that he may again support Raila Odinga in 2027, potentially keeping Ukambani in opposition. However, as the next election approaches, community leaders like Ngilu and Kiema Kilonzo are emerging as alternative voices advocating for a strategic realignment toward government involvement.
The rising support for figures like Ngilu and Kiema reflects a desire among many in Ukambani for representation that goes beyond party loyalties and focuses on tangible progress. As 2027 draws closer, the Kamba community faces a crucial choice: maintain its longstanding opposition stance or follow new leadership into a potentially transformative partnership with the government.
