As part of the county government’s commitment to provide effective healthcare services for Kitui residents, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation today received a consignment of assorted drugs and non-pharmaceutical worth Sh. 79 million.
Speaking while receiving the consignment at the Kitui County Referral Hospital, the Health CECM Ruth Koki said the drugs and medical supplies will be distributed to all the 308 facilities across the county within two weeks.
CECM Koki noted that the consignment was part of a Sh.111 million order made to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
“We placed the order at the beginning of this financial year (2024/2025) but KEMSA has only managed to supply us with drugs and non-pharmaceuticals worth Sh.79 million. The rest will be procured from the Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) and other agencies,” she said.
The Health Executive attributed the swift delivery of drugs to Kitui County to the ministry’s impeccable history of making prompt payments to drugs supply agencies
“Kitui is the first county this financial year to receive drugs from KEMSA. This is because we make our payments on time,” she added noting that the batch received today is expected to last for three and half months.
She was accompanied by the Chief Officer for Drugs and Medical Supplies Aggrey Kamba, Head of Medical Services Dr. Ndetei Mutisya, KCRH Medical Superintendent Dr. John Mungai, among other officials.
