In a remarkable show of unity and commitment to peace, the County Government of Kitui today marked the International Day of Peace in Nuu ward, Mwingi Central Sub-County.

Nuu, which is situated along the volatile Kitui-Tana River border region, has borne the brunt of insecurity, making this celebration all the more poignant.

Under the theme of “Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals”, the event unfolded as a testament to the county government’s dedication to foster peace and stability in close collaboration with the national government.

This commitment was yesterday acknowledged by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, who commended Governor Dr. Julius Malombe for his visionary initiative to establish eight police stations along the porous borderline.

The imminent completion of the Mandongoi police station in Ngomeni Ward of Mwingi North Sub-County was also highlighted as a significant milestone in enhancing security for residents inhabiting the area.

Kitui Director for Special Programmes Redemta Mary, who represented the Governor, urged the community to wholeheartedly embrace peace as an indispensable catalyst for development and progress within our beloved county.

Emphasizing the Governor’s clarion call to denounce violence, Director Mary underscored that peace was the cornerstone upon which the Governor’s 16-sector development agenda “The Kitui Promise” is hinged.

She further noted that these ambitious development priorities could only be realized in an environment free from chaos and conflicts.

Kitui County Commissioner Erastus Mbui emphasized the significance of peace in strengthening the socioeconomic welfare of communities in Kitui County and beyond.

This commemoration serves as a powerful reminder that peace is not merely an abstract concept but a tangible force capable of driving tangible change within Kitui County. It is a call to action, a commitment to global ideals, and a collective endeavor towards a brighter, more peaceful future for all.

Also present was the area of MCA Judith Wanza, members of the county security team, development partners and other national and county government officers.
