Kitui East Member of Parliament, Hon. Nimrod Mbithuka Mbai, has strongly denied allegations linking him to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The claims, recently highlighted in a Daily Nation report, suggest Mbai is part of Gachagua’s inner circle—a narrative the MP has dismissed as baseless and misleading.
In a detailed statement issued on Monday, Mbai reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He emphasized his dedication to championing the Kenya Kwanza administration’s vision for Kenya, a commitment he says dates back to the campaign trail. The MP also recalled his outspoken criticism of Gachagua’s role in the coalition, accusing the former Deputy President of being a divisive force within the government.
Key Role in Gachagua’s Impeachment Debate
Hon. Mbai revealed that he was among the first elected leaders to openly question Gachagua’s influence, which he described as detrimental to the coalition’s progress. He disclosed how he spearheaded discussions among Ukambani MPs, rallying support for Gachagua’s impeachment even before the matter became widely publicized.
“It is on record that I have always stood firmly with President William Ruto. Any suggestion that I am an ally of Rigathi Gachagua is not only false but also a deliberate misrepresentation of facts,” Mbai asserted.
Political Challenges in Kitui
Mbai addressed the unique political struggles he faces in Kitui, a region traditionally dominated by the opposition Wiper Party. Despite this, he has remained steadfast in promoting Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza agenda, often working to rally local leaders behind the government’s development objectives.
His efforts, however, have not come without resistance. Mbai noted that certain political forces have attempted to undermine his leadership by distorting his allegiances. Nonetheless, he continues to advocate for the transformative agenda set by President Ruto.
Support from Kitui East Constituents
Kitui East residents have rallied behind their MP, rejecting the claims of his association with Gachagua. Speaking on behalf of the community, one resident remarked, “We know our MP, Nimrod Mbai, as a close and loyal ally of President William Ruto. Attempts to brand him otherwise are both unfair and unfounded. He has always stood firm for our constituency and the President’s vision.”
Setting the Record Straight
As debate continues over alleged political purges within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, Hon. Mbai’s public rebuttal shifts the narrative. His statements reiterate his loyalty to President Ruto and clarify his opposition to Gachagua’s perceived divisive tactics.
Backed by strong support from his constituents and his party, Mbai remains focused on advancing the Kenya Kwanza agenda. His steadfast commitment to the President’s vision has solidified his reputation as a dependable ally and a vocal advocate for progressive change in Kitui and beyond.
