Former Ambassador to Turkey and seasoned politician Hon. Kiema Kilonzo has called on the Kamba community to abandon opposition politics and align with the government of the day to secure a seat at the decision-making table.

In an exclusive interview with TCD Digital, Kiema criticized the longstanding tradition of following opposition leaders, asserting that it has left the community politically marginalized. He singled out opposition chief Raila Odinga, accusing him of repeatedly joining the government through backdoor deals, leaving Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka politically stranded.

“The Kamba community has been in opposition for too long, taking pride in being left out of government decisions. This benefits Raila Odinga only, while our people are left in the cold,” Kiema said.

Kiema highlighted key figures from the Kamba region, including former Cabinet Secretary Penina Malonza, former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, MPs Nimrod Mbai and Rachael Nyamai, who are aligned with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government. He argued that their support significantly bolsters Ruto’s chances of re-election in 2027 and presents an opportunity for the region to gain meaningful representation.

The former Mutito MP urged the Kamba nation to “wake up” and embrace progressive politics by joining forces with the ruling coalition. “We must stop blindly following opposition leaders and instead position ourselves for development and political influence,” he added.

Kiema also called on UDA leaders in Kitui and other regions to welcome leaders willing to join the government rather than viewing them as rivals. He stressed that the government has room for everyone and encouraged unity among leaders for the sake of regional development.

The outspoken diplomat’s remarks come amidst an ongoing debate over the future of Kamba politics and Kalonzo Musyoka’s strategy as Wiper Party leader. Kiema’s bold stance is expected to stir political discourse within the community.
