Kitui County leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing development through a unified approach, following a consultative meeting held in Mombasa County. The week-long event brought together key leaders, including Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, Speaker of the County Assembly Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), to review the county’s progress on various projects and programs.
MCA Mark Ndingo, noted for his collaborative work with Governor Malombe, was among the notable attendees. The meeting, themed “Financing County Development in the Face of Shrinking Fiscal Space,” focused on addressing the financial challenges counties face in delivering services amid limited resources.
Keynote speakers such as former Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, health expert Dr. Zachary Kariuki, and finance professionals offered insights into leadership, health, infrastructure, water management, youth empowerment, and resource mobilization.
The leaders collectively agreed on several resolutions, which were outlined in a joint communique. These included improving healthcare services by constructing new facilities in underserved areas, expanding water infrastructure, and enhancing road networks. In addition, the county will hold a youth engagement forum in November to address the needs and aspirations of the younger population.
Governor Malombe expressed optimism about achieving the county’s goals, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with national agencies and neighboring counties to maintain peace and security. He also underscored the need for transparency, professionalism, and accountability in delivering services to the people of Kitui.
The meeting marked a significant step towards strengthening the county’s governance, with both the Assembly and the Executive committed to working together for the betterment of Kitui residents.
