Nairobi, Kenya – A faction of Azimio la Umoja principals has firmly rejected calls by ODM leader Raila Odinga to join the Kenya Kwanza government. The leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Peter Munya, Charity Ngilu, Jeremiah Kioni, and Eugene Wamalwa, have made it clear that they are “not boarding” the initiative.

This development comes as President William Ruto is anticipated to form a government of national unity, wherein he is expected to appoint cabinet secretaries from various political parties. However, the refusal from these prominent Azimio la Umoja figures marks a significant political stance and indicates possible rifts within the coalition.

Kalonzo Musyoka, speaking on behalf of the dissenting leaders, emphasized their commitment to the ideals and principles that Azimio la Umoja stands for, stating that joining the Kenya Kwanza government would compromise their integrity and dilute their mission. Martha Karua echoed these sentiments, highlighting the need for a strong opposition to hold the government accountable.

Political analysts suggest that this resistance could reshape the dynamics of Kenya’s political landscape, potentially leading to a more pronounced division between the government and the opposition. The coming days will be crucial in determining how this split within Azimio la Umoja will influence the broader political environment and the anticipated formation of President Ruto’s cabinet.
