Ngilu, Mulila Join hands to raise Sh12 Million for Flyover at St. Mathias Mulumba-Matinyani Secondary School

-

Ktui County Government will construct a pedestrian flyover at St. Mathias Mulumba-Matinyani Secondary School to safeguard students from the dangers of crossing the busy Matinyani road.

Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu announced the plan during a fundraiser at the school over the weekend, revealing that the county has allocated Sh12 million for the project. The flyover, she said, will be similar in design to those constructed at Starehe Boys Centre and Pangani Girls in Nairobi.

Ngilu was responding to an appeal made by Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze, who called for improved infrastructure to ensure student safety and well-being. The event, aimed at raising funds for a new dining hall, collected Sh17 million in total.

School Board Chair Nicholas Mulila, who also serves as Safaricom’s Head of Security, expressed gratitude to both the Governor and the MP for their continued support.

“We have just commissioned a brand new modern dormitory funded by the Kitui West CDF through Hon. Nyenze. We are grateful for the commitment shown towards the development of this school,” said Mulila.

Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, an alumnus of Matinyani, praised the school for maintaining academic excellence.

“Matinyani has quietly grown into an educational powerhouse in Kitui. My legacy will be forever tied to this school,” he said.

Also speaking at the event was Vicar General of the Kitui Catholic Diocese, the Very Rev. Father Joseph Mwongela, who is also a former student. He emphasized the Church’s ongoing role in supporting young people through their formative years.

Kaiti MP Gidion Kimilu, several Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), and prominent Kitui professionals also attended the event, underscoring the wide support for the school’s development.
