Landowners affected by the construction of the Kibwezi-Kitui Road are set to receive long-awaited compensation following the release of Sh1.5 billion by the national government.Kitui South Member of Parliament, Dr. Rachael Kaki Nyamai, shared the breakthrough during a recent session in Parliament and later through her official social media platforms.
She expressed deep gratitude to President William Ruto for honoring the government’s commitment to compensate residents whose land was acquired for the vital infrastructure project.“Some great news for Kibwezi–Kitui Road. Thank you Parliament and all involved. Be blessed,” Dr. Nyamai posted, signaling a sense of relief and achievement.
In an exclusive interview with Media, Dr. Nyamai praised the Head of State for unlocking the long-pending compensation, which is expected to benefit hundreds of families who have waited for years.“This was promised and promised… now, family, we have seen the Sh1.5 billion and we are optimistic about the rest of the funds being handled,” said the legislator, adding that the allocation represents a significant step forward for the community.
She also commended the Departmental Committee on Lands, led by Hon. Joash Nyamoko, for consistently raising the matter in Parliament and ensuring it remained a top agenda item.Dr. Nyamai further noted that a delegation of local leaders had recently met President Ruto to push for the release of the compensation funds.
The President, she said, assured them that the matter would be addressed, and his fulfillment of that promise has now restored confidence among the affected landowners.The compensation signals a major milestone for Kitui South and surrounding constituencies, bringing closure to a long-standing issue and offering renewed hope to families who gave up their land for national development.—
