Kitui County, 6th October 2023- In a significant effort to ensure the health and well-being of its youngest residents, Kitui County has kicked off a five-day Polio immunization drive targeting children under 5 years of age. The ambitious campaign, which will span the entire Kitui County, will involve door-to-door outreach to reach every eligible child.

The event’s launch was marked by the presence of esteemed representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and Kitui County’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Benson Musyoka. Leading the charge was Madam Lyne Kitwan, Kitui’s Chief Officer for Public Health.

Madam Kitwan took center stage during the launch, underlining the unwavering commitment of Kitui County’s Governor, Dr. Malombe, to support health development initiatives across the region. This Polio immunization drive is a testament to the county’s dedication to ensuring the health and safety of its youngest citizens.

Polio, a preventable but potentially debilitating disease, remains a global concern. The Kitui County initiative aligns with international efforts to eradicate Polio and protect children from this vaccine-preventable disease.

Over the course of the five-day campaign, healthcare teams will fan out across Kitui County, knocking on doors to ensure that every child under the age of 5 receives the crucial Polio vaccine. The comprehensive approach aims to leave no child behind, regardless of their location within the county.

Dr. Benson Musyoka, Chief Medical Officer for Kitui County, emphasized the importance of community-wide engagement in this endeavor. He commended the dedication of healthcare workers and volunteers who will be working tirelessly to administer vaccines and educate families about the benefits of immunization.

UNICEF and WHO representatives offered their support and lauded Kitui County’s proactive approach in protecting children from Polio. Their presence underscored the collaborative nature of this global effort to eradicate the disease.

In conclusion, Kitui County’s five-day Polio immunization drive represents a proactive step toward securing the health and future of its youngest residents.

With the unwavering commitment of Governor Dr. Malombe and the dedication of healthcare professionals, Kitui County aims to make a significant contribution to the global mission to eradicate Polio and ensure a brighter, healthier future for all its children.
